Gratteri - a village waiting to be reawakened

Nestled in the hills of the Madonie Mountains, 657m about sea level, is the small village of Gratteri. This tranquil mountain hamlet belongs to the Province of Palermo, and has been around since the time of the Arab conquests one thousand years ago.

The roughly 1000 inhabitants mainly work in agriculture or in the tourism industry just 12km away in Cefalu. The town is a popular starting point for hiking in the Madonie.

In the 1980s and '90s, some of Palermo's city-dwellers bought houses in Gratteri, not just because of the pleasant climate in the hot summer months, but also because of the peaceful way of life that is still found there. The tranquility and uniqueness of this village where one sees everywhere signs of the 'good old days' started to draw lovers of Sicily from all over the world who bought houses in the old town in order to relax and to reconnect with a more natural way of life.

Only a few mountain villages have such an advantageous location with only 15km to the coast, 15km to the highway, and a nearby airport (Palermo 100km).

The nearest beach is just 20 minutes away by car!

Some of these century-old houses are for sale, and some have been completely renovated.

It would be a real shame if this idyllic mountain village were not enjoyed!

All of the prices you see for these properties are "suggestions" by the seller. There is some flexibility as long as no long-term financing is lost. As far as renovation is concerned, that of course depends a lot on your own initiative, cost of materials, and construction company chosen. We are here right on the scene, organizing tenders in order to find the absolute best, though not necessarily the cheapest, offer.
